Jobs and the Economy
Dave’s strong interest in economic development has led to his membership on the board of the Snohomish County Economic Development Council, the Puget Sound region’s Economic Development District board, and the board of the Trade Development Alliance, where he serves as an officer.
Dave recognizes that stimulating the economy and creating jobs is more important than ever. In response to the economic crisis the county has held three workshop sessions to ask chambers of commerce, educational institutions, the aerospace industry, realtors, builders, banks, union members, and others what they think the county can do to stimulate business and create jobs. Dave also supports the county taking an aggressive role in seeking stimulus dollars to promote Snohomish County jobs.
The aerospace industry is key to Snohomish County’s economy. Earlier this decade Dave worked as part of the team that convinced the Boeing Company to build the 787 in Everett. That effort needs to continue and be expanded in cooperation with the state to persuade Boeing to expand the 787 line in Everett.
Dave has also:
- Strongly supported the building of the necessary infrastructure: roads, transit, surface water systems, etc. that will support a strong economy.
- Supported the efforts of the Economic Development Council to successfully bring new businesses to Snohomish County including the bio-tech company Berlex and the aerospace companies Messier Bugotti and Korry Electronics.
- As a member of the Economic Development District board he worked with business, labor, and citizens to design the Prosperity Partnership’s strategic plan for future economic growth
- Promoted the international trade that is so vital to this region’s economy as a member and officer of the board of the Trade Development Alliance
- Helped to streamline the permitting system in Snohomish County, eliminating unnecessary delays. Many permits can now be applied for and issued on-line.
